ICV 23 flag selected

As announced during my trip to Japan, the organizers of the 23rd International Congress of Vexillology have selected a flag for the congress. The design of the flag is fairly simple to draw, but interesting nonetheless.

The flag is a white background with the FIAV knot on the bottom in red. The knot are composed of halyards, which are used to raise and lower flags on a daily basis. The knot symbolizes the friendship of all peoples. This red/white design is currently used as the flag of the Japanese Vexillological Association (JAVA). JAVA is the group organizing ICV 23

If you seen the JAVA flag, you noticed the red sun above the knots. In the case of the ICV 23 flag, the red sun is replaced with the symbol of Yokohama City. Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, will be the host of ICV 23. The flag was composed by Nozomi Kariyasu (a great friend of mine, also Japanese author), with modifications to the current image by Eugene Ipavec (USA) and Tetsuo Kato (Japan). The image here was also modified by me a bit, mostly to introduce the Pantone 186 the Japanese flag needs, but also give a clean vector of the flag so manufacturers have something good to use. The ratio for this image is 7x10, as the original JAVA flag (and originally, the national flag of Japan), but I also made a 2x3 ratio version.
