Akihabara Stabbing Incident

When I was dealing with work, a stabbing spree was taking place in Akihabara, Tokyo. By the time I got home, photos of the aftermath (like that above) were making the rounds on the imageboards and the blogosphere. I first heard about the incident from 4chan and from Danny Choo. I do not know all of the details, and since I am writing this at a time I should be asleep, I don't really think I can spend much more effort to find the details.

My first thought was how this could have happened. Well, Sunday is a popular time to be in Akihabara, especially since it is an area off limits to vehicles according to local law. CNN said the suspect hit people with his car and then started to stab folks. Honestly, I do not know how the barricades are put up for the no-car rules, but I hope the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department reviews that. Second, my thought went to the families and friends of the injured and deceased. I do not know why the victims were chosen, but as someone interested in the Japanese culture, which includes anime and gaming, fellow otaku down usually means the family is sadden. I also do not know how this will affect the anime airings too, but that is wait to be seen.

My last concern as about me. I will be in the area, along with close friends and a loved one, in a month for now. The only thing I know for sure is that we will not be in the area during the traffic-free zone on Sundays. By the time that happens, the tour students will be in Harajuku (home of the street fashion, which I am not too crazy about) and I will be in Machida-ku meeting with the Nihon Kishōgaku Kyōkai (Japanese Vexillological Association) doing the stuff I like to do with the friends I been waiting to meet for years. Do I feel safe in Japan? I hope so; safety in numbers help a lot. Also not being drunk and not going to the red light zones, like Roppongi, will also help. However, I need to keep my guard up, stay alert and just know what to do if something does happen. Anyways, I should sleep now, and I hope things will get better.

You're not being rude, so don't worry about it.
